Ugh. That's Jake's catchphrase, and it's sure to be your's after catching any one of his trailblazing performances anywhere in the Austin scene. A young man with his finger on the pulse of the community, mostly so he can find a vein to sell plasma out of; Jake is showing audiences all around the country what it means to tell yourself to settle for less when really you were never worth any more. If alcohol is your cup of tea (you put booze in your tea, because you are both pretentious and an alcoholic) then Jake Flores is right up your alley, meaning he appeals to you, and he also is probably currently sleeping one off in an alley. So if you have any interest in seeing what the Onion AV club refers to as "shows include:" and who tours regularly with the Altercation Punk Rock Comedy tour, come on down to the Velveeta room and prepared to be wowed by (sadly) one of the most talented young comedians working today.
Seth Cockfield.
After over a decade of experience (he’s over ten years old) and countless forays into the rough waters of the world of stand up comedy, Seth Cockfield has finally made it. Gone are the days of obscurity and rejection, where the young wet-behind-the-ears boy from New Orleans gets bounced from open mic lists and fired from Whole Foods for something that was presumably someone else’s fault. Holding his head high after once again returning to the finals of the Funniest Person in Austin Contest this year, Seth Cockfield is ready to rock your world live with the same high-caliber performance he delivers regularly at Coldtowne Theater, Cap City and of course his home club, right here at the Velv. Drawing from his lifetime of not being Jewish, but being confused for being Jewish, and then trying to not sound racist while he explains his problem with being called Jewish, Seth’s neurotic delivery and insightful wit are enough to keep any audience from walking out of the room for exactly however long this show is.
